Weather Update: Yamuna Crosses Danger Mark in Delhi After Massive Water Release, Flood Threat Looms Over Low-Lying Areas

ABP News Bureau   |  02 Sep 2025 12:52 PM (IST)

Delhi is facing a serious flood threat as the Yamuna River has once again crossed the danger mark. The situation has intensified due to the continuous release of water from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage. Around 3.29 lakh cusecs of water per hour has been released since 5:00 AM on Monday, and an additional 39,000 cusecs has been discharged from the Wazirabad Barrage. As a precautionary measure, the government has closed the Old Railway Bridge for traffic from 5:00 PM today. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert, predicting heavy rainfall across the city, further worsening the situation. Floodwaters have already entered low-lying areas like Yamuna Bazaar, submerging homes in 2–2.5 feet of water. Residents have been evacuated and moved to relief camps. NDRF teams have been deployed along the Yamuna floodplains to assist in rescue operations. Visuals show submerged homes and waterlogged streets. Belongings like beds and furniture are underwater, and many families have locked their homes and evacuated. The administration remains on high alert, with relief camps and emergency services in full operation. Authorities continue to monitor the rising water levels closely, urging residents in vulnerable zones to relocate to safer areas immediately.
