VB-G RAM G Bill: Rajya Sabha Passes Viksit Bharat Rural Jobs Bill Amid Protests, TMC MPs Hold Overnight Dharna
Parliament passed the Viksit Bharat Ji Ramji Bill after the Rajya Sabha cleared it late at night, following its approval in the Lok Sabha. While the bill has become law, political protests have intensified within the Parliament campus. Trinamool Congress MPs began an overnight sit-in protest near the Makar Dwar and announced that the dharna would continue till noon. The party accused the BJP-led central government of disrespecting Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore by removing Gandhi’s name from the rural employment guarantee scheme earlier known as MGNREGA. Congress has also announced nationwide protests. TMC leaders alleged the government is anti-poor and has undermined the constitutional right of rural workers to guaranteed employment, vowing to take the protest from Parliament to the streets.
