SCO Summit 2025: India Calls Out Terrorism While Managing Delicate Relations | ABP NEWS

ABP News Bureau   |  01 Sep 2025 01:12 PM (IST)

At the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, India demonstrated its nuanced diplomatic approach amidst complex geopolitical challenges involving China, Russia, and the US. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong stance against terrorism, particularly highlighting the Pahalgam attack, sent a clear message. India condemned terrorism as a persistent issue affecting millions, underscoring that friends stand with India while countries like China and Pakistan do not. This bold statement reflects India’s commitment to counterterrorism on a global platform. Despite ongoing border disputes with China and the volatile China-Pakistan nexus, India continues to prioritize economic ties with China, showing a pragmatic balance between conflict and commerce. Meanwhile, India maintains a stable strategic partnership with Russia, emphasizing mutual benefits and the need to strengthen ties further. The US-India relationship also remains crucial, with back-channel diplomacy working to resolve trade issues and potentially finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Ambassador Deepak Bora highlighted that India’s diplomacy is autonomous; Prime Minister Modi’s speeches reflect India’s independent stance, not requiring external clearance. India’s strategic autonomy, its fight against terrorism, and economic diversification are key elements in its global foreign policy amid multipolar tensions. The awaited joint declaration from the SCO summit will further clarify the collective approach to these challenges.
