Murshidabad Violence: 3 Dead, Over 150 Arrested as BSF Deployed to Restore Order in Bengal

ABP News Bureau   |  13 Apr 2025 01:27 PM (IST)

Violence continues to grip Murshidabad in West Bengal as protests over the Waqf Act spiral into chaos. The unrest, which began with demonstrations, quickly turned violent, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to several others, including police personnel. Shops were looted, vehicles set ablaze, and residents forced to flee or seek safety elsewhere. Eyewitnesses reported law enforcement being slow to respond despite a police station being just 200 meters away from the epicenter of violence. In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been deployed, with seven companies stationed across key hotspots like Suti, Dhuliyan, and Shamsherganj. Over 300 paramilitary personnel are currently on the ground, with more expected as the situation remains tense. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has also joined efforts to restore order. The Calcutta High Court has taken the matter seriously, and the central government is closely monitoring developments. Meanwhile, political blame games have intensified. While BJP demands President’s Rule in the state, TMC leaders accuse the opposition of inciting violence for electoral gains. With more than 150 arrests made so far, the administration is under pressure to act swiftly as public confidence in law and order erodes across the region.
