Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. He was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi the same day after experiencing breathing difficulties. Expressing grief over Dr. Singh's demise, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, "This is deeply saddening. He was a great Prime Minister who served the nation with dedication. We are canceling all our programs and heading back to Delhi." Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s fourteenth Prime Minister, was renowned for his humility, diligence, and unwavering commitment to his work. He joined the Ministry of Commerce as an Economic Advisor in 1971 and was appointed Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance in 1972. Over the years, he held several key positions, including Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Vice-Chairman of the Planning Commission, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Advisor to the Prime Minister, and Chairman of the University Grants Commission. Dr. Singh served as India’s Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, a period crucial to shaping the country’s economic framework.
