Mahadangal: In Motihari, Modi Paints Grim Picture of Past—But What About Today? | ABP NEWS

ABP News Bureau   |  19 Jul 2025 10:04 AM (IST)

During his recent visit to Motihari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reignited the debate around Bihar’s law and order by invoking the era of “Jungle Raj” under the RJD-led government. Launching several development projects, Modi criticized the Congress-RJD alliance, accusing them of looting Bihar and holding a vendetta against the state. He recalled a time when people avoided painting their homes out of fear that criminals might target them for being wealthy. PM Modi positioned today’s Bihar as one of “new light,” contrasting it with the “lantern era,” a direct dig at RJD’s party symbol. These remarks come amid a surge in crime, including a recent murder in a Patna hospital where police remain clueless. Opposition leaders, including RJD, hit back, questioning why Modi ignored the present lawlessness and instead focused on the past. They accused the Prime Minister of avoiding real issues like unchecked murders and the collapse of law enforcement. With state elections looming, the political battle is intensifying—NDA defending its record while the opposition highlights governance failures. The central question remains: Will invoking the past erase public concern over present-day crime?
