Janhit: Opposition Slams Election Commission as SC Backs Voter Verification Drive in Bihar | ABP NEWS

As elections draw near, the Election Commission has accelerated its voter list verification drive in Bihar, with over 74% participation already recorded. Backed by the Supreme Court, the campaign aims to identify bogus voters, but the opposition has fiercely opposed it, alleging it is a political tool favoring the BJP. Leaders like Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi have accused the EC of functioning as an "agent" of the BJP. A key focus is Bihar’s Seemanchal region — bordering Nepal and Bangladesh — including districts like Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, and Araria, where illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants are suspected to reside. Government estimates suggest there could be up to 10 lakh infiltrators in the state. Many allegedly possess Aadhaar, ration cards, and even voter IDs. Meanwhile, the reemergence of RJD’s controversial 1990s slogan “Bhura Baal Saaf Karo” (interpreted as a caste-targeted call) has added to tensions. The opposition insists the verification is a disguised attempt at voter suppression, especially among minorities, while the government sees it as a legitimate clean-up. With political narratives clashing and past ideologies resurfacing, Bihar’s electoral battleground appears more charged than ever before.
