FIR against Vijay Shah calls him 'Shri', High Court slams weak police action in army insult case
In a shocking revelation, the FIR filed against Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah—who is facing national outrage for insulting woman army officer Colonel Sofia Quraishi—has referred to him as "Shri Vijay Shah" twice, raising serious questions about the intent of the state police. This unusual show of respect in a criminal complaint has sparked further anger, with critics accusing the government and police of shielding the minister. The only action taken so far—an FIR—came not proactively but under pressure from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which took suo motu cognizance of Shah's statement. However, even this FIR has been called “weakly drafted” by the court, suggesting it could be easily dismissed in legal proceedings. The court instructed the police to redraft the FIR, reflecting how even judicial instructions are being loosely followed.Despite growing calls for his resignation, including from senior BJP leader Uma Bharti who invoked the party’s moral responsibility, Shah remains in office. CM Mohan Yadav insists he is only following court orders, but critics allege political will is missing. Shah has now approached the Supreme Court seeking relief, claiming his statement was misrepresented and that he has already apologized.
