Exclusive: Harshil Army Camp And Helipad Washed Away As Search For Missing Soldiers Intensifies

ABP News Bureau   |  09 Aug 2025 01:29 PM (IST)

In Harshil, Uttarkashi, nature’s fury has left behind scenes of complete devastation. Following a massive flood triggered by a cloudburst, the Army camp stationed in the region was entirely washed away, leaving several soldiers missing. Reports confirm that at least seven soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, are still unaccounted for. The Army’s rescue teams are working relentlessly, using heavy machinery, search dogs, and manual efforts to locate those trapped under debris and boulders. The flood’s impact was so severe that large trees, structures, and even the Army’s helipad were swept away, turning the area into a vast water-filled basin resembling a lake. ABP News correspondent Balram Pandey reached the disaster site after a difficult journey, capturing exclusive visuals from the ground. The Gangnani bridge remains damaged, forcing rescuers to take perilous mountain routes. Soldiers are seen removing massive rocks and scanning dense forest areas, hoping to find survivors. The once fully functional helipad is now submerged, with no visible trace left, and the surrounding terrain is covered with silt, debris, and uprooted trees. Despite harsh conditions, the Army’s tireless search operation continues, reflecting resilience, commitment, and an unwavering hope to bring every missing comrade back to safety.
