Dense Fog Grips North India, Visibility Drops Across UP and Delhi-NCR; Snowfall Likely in Hills

ABP News Bureau   |  21 Dec 2025 02:31 PM (IST)

Large parts of North India are witnessing severe weather conditions as a dense blanket of fog continues to disrupt normal life. Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Raebareli, Sitapur and Hardoi, remain engulfed in thick fog, significantly reducing visibility and increasing difficulties for commuters and travelers. Delhi-NCR is also facing similar conditions, with intense cold and fog affecting road traffic across areas such as ITO, AIIMS, Akshardham, Mayur Vihar, Noida and Greater Noida. In some locations, visibility has dropped to just a few metres, forcing drivers to use headlights and fog lamps even during daytime. Traffic congestion has worsened, with short journeys taking significantly longer due to slow-moving vehicles and safety precautions. According to weather officials, while fog and pollution levels were slightly lower compared to the previous day, the situation remains challenging. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded around 348, indicating very poor air quality despite marginal improvement. Western disturbances have caused changes in wind patterns, offering temporary relief. Meanwhile, snowfall has been predicted in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, adding to the winter severity. Traffic police have issued advisories urging caution, as the risk of road accidents remains high due to low visibility.
