Delhi NCR Sees Slight Relief as Fog Thins and Air Quality Improves, Cold Wave Continues

ABP News Bureau   |  21 Dec 2025 01:41 PM (IST)

Delhi-NCR continues to experience intense cold conditions, but there has been noticeable relief in terms of fog density and air pollution levels compared to the previous day. Visuals from the Akshardham area in the national capital show significantly improved visibility, with the Akshardham Temple clearly visible—something that was not possible earlier due to dense fog. According to available data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi, which had earlier crossed the hazardous mark of 500, has improved to around 348 as of today. While the air quality remains in the ‘very poor’ category, the reduction indicates a marginal improvement in pollution levels. Weather experts attribute this change to the impact of an active western disturbance, which has altered wind patterns and brought some movement in the atmosphere. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that weather conditions may continue to fluctuate in the coming days. Earlier, dense fog had severely affected road visibility, slowing down vehicular movement across the city. However, with reduced fog today, traffic movement appears relatively smooth. Despite improved conditions, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory urging commuters to remain cautious, use headlights while driving, and maintain safe speeds, especially during early morning hours. Overall, both fog intensity and pollution levels have dipped slightly, offering temporary relief to residents amid the ongoing cold wave.
