Bulldozer Drive Hits Kalkaji, Batla House as DDA Targets 1,200 Illegal Constructions in Delhi
Massive demolition drives took place across parts of Delhi, including Kalkaji and Batla House, as authorities acted on High Court orders to clear illegal constructions. In Kalkaji’s Bhoomiheen Camp area alone, nearly 1,200 unauthorized jhuggis were targeted by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) bulldozers. The operation began early on the morning of June 11, with five bulldozers and a large contingent of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces present on-site.Officials said that prior eviction notices had been served, asking residents to vacate by June 10. Despite this, many residents appeared shocked and emotional as their homes were razed. Some managed to salvage their belongings before demolition began, while others were seen helplessly watching their homes being reduced to rubble.Simultaneously, similar bulldozer action took place in Batla House, another locality in South Delhi, where illegal encroachments were being removed. These operations are part of the DDA's broader anti-encroachment campaign, which has gained momentum with judicial backing.Visuals from both sites showed destroyed homes, heavy security deployment, and emotional scenes from affected residents. The demolition drive underscores the government’s strict stance on illegal settlements and the ongoing efforts to reclaim public land.
