Breaking: Yogi Adityanath Declares Agra Museum to Be Named After Chhatrapati Shivaji, Not Mughals

ABP News Bureau   |  27 Mar 2025 10:53 AM (IST)

The debate over historical figures like Aurangzeb, Shivaji, and Sambhaji has taken center stage in Indian politics, with history now turning into a battleground for ideological clashes. The latest controversy has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during his visit to Agra, declared that the city's new museum will be named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj instead of the Mughals.Speaking at an event, Yogi questioned the Mughal connection to Agra, asserting that the city's true identity is rooted in Braj Bhumi, Brindavan Bihari Lal, and Radha Rani. He criticized the previous Samajwadi Party government for planning to name the museum after the Mughals and affirmed that his administration would dedicate it to Shivaji, whom he called Agra’s true symbol. The statement has intensified political tensions, with opposition leaders accusing the BJP of historical revisionism. Meanwhile, right-wing groups have welcomed the move, seeing it as a step toward honoring Indian heritage. The controversy is expected to escalate as political parties continue to debate Agra’s historical legacy.
