Breaking: Rescue Operations Continue in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli After Avalanche, Four Workers Still Missing

ABP News Bureau   |  02 Mar 2025 09:56 AM (IST)

In Uttarakhand's Chamoli, rescue operations continue on the third day following a devastating avalanche. The avalanche struck on Friday, burying 54 laborers working in the area. As of now, 50 workers have been rescued, but four are still missing. The tragic incident occurred in the first village of India, where all the laborers were asleep in containers at the time, making it difficult for them to escape. The avalanche hit suddenly, leaving no chance for escape, and the workers were buried under heavy snow. Rescue teams, including the Army, ITBP, NDRF, and BRO personnel, are tirelessly working to save those trapped. So far, 33 workers were rescued on Friday, and 17 more were saved on Saturday. Unfortunately, four workers died during treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been closely monitoring the situation, speaking with Chief Minister Dhami for updates. Meanwhile, in Pithoragarh, a separate incident occurred when a landslide caused by heavy snow resulted in the death of a laborer after a pile of rocks and mud struck a shop. The harsh weather continues to challenge rescue efforts across the region, with efforts still underway to reach those in need.
