Breaking News: Aniruddh Acharya’s Apology Fails to Quell Anger Over Misogynistic Remarks | ABP NEWS

ABP News Bureau   |  26 Jul 2025 01:28 PM (IST)

Recently, Kathavaachak Aniruddh Acharya made a controversial statement about women that sparked widespread outrage. In his remarks, he claimed that many 25-year-old women behave irresponsibly, living multiple lives and harming relationships. This sparked protests, with people burning his effigy and shouting slogans. Although Acharya later apologized, his apology was seen as insincere because he justified his comments by targeting only “some women” who harm their husbands due to involvement with other men. Acharya’s remarks were perceived as offensive and regressive, especially since he calls himself a saint and claims to protect Sanatan Dharma. Critics argue that his comments undermine women’s dignity and promote harmful stereotypes. Moreover, his statements about early marriage and character have drawn sharp criticism, especially in today’s world where women are pursuing education and careers. Many pointed out that such views ignore the realities of modern society and the progress made towards gender equality. His remarks about young women’s character and marriage age also contradict laws protecting children and women’s rights. The backlash reflects society’s refusal to tolerate misogyny disguised as “cultural” or “religious” views. In a time when “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save and Educate the Girl Child) campaigns are empowering women, such regressive opinions only hinder progress. It is essential for public figures to promote respect and equality rather than stereotypes and divisiveness.
