Breaking: Massive Uttarkashi Helicopter Rescue Saves Over Six Hundred Stranded Pilgrims

ABP News Bureau   |  09 Aug 2025 02:39 PM (IST)

In Uttarkashi, the third day of a massive rescue operation is underway to evacuate people stranded due to blocked routes near Dharali and further along the road to Gangotri. ITBP helicopters have been airlifting individuals from remote areas and bringing them to the ITBP helipad in Uttarkashi. Visuals show helicopters landing with passengers who had been trapped for days due to landslides and heavy rainfall. Authorities report that over 600 people have been rescued so far, including families, elderly citizens, and children. Among the rescued is a woman with her two children and sister, separated from her husband, who is on duty in Dehradun. She described the fear of staying in hazardous conditions and expressed relief at reaching safety. Officials confirm that rescue teams are still operating in difficult terrain, facing unpredictable weather and limited access. With more rainfall expected, the administration is on high alert to prevent further casualties. Relief centers have been set up to provide medical aid, food, and shelter to evacuees. The operation underscores the importance of rapid response, coordination between forces, and the critical role of air support in disaster zones.
