Ahmedabad Plane Crash: High-Level Committee Formed to Investigate AI171 Plane Crash, Report Due in 3 Months

ABP News Bureau   |  14 Jun 2025 10:09 AM (IST)

In a major development, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the tragic Air India flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed 265 lives — marking the deadliest aviation disaster in Indian history. The committee will be headed by the Union Home Secretary and is expected to submit its report within three months. The committee has been granted full authority to conduct an independent investigation without interference. Following international norms, the probe will be conducted as per the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) manual. Members of the committee include the Civil Aviation Secretary, Gujarat’s Home Secretary, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, Director of Air Force Security, Director Generals of DGCA and BCAS, Special Director of IB, and Director of DFSS. The committee will examine the crash site, analyze debris, record eyewitness accounts, and evaluate all available evidence, including flight data from the recently recovered black box. All relevant records will be secured and analyzed, and existing SOPs will be reviewed to determine any lapses or critical failures. This committee’s findings will be pivotal in understanding the circumstances that led to the catastrophic crash and in preventing such tragedies in the future.
