Atal Bihari Vajpayee's daughter Namita Bhattacharya
gave him mukhagni at Smrithi Sthal in New Delhi.

Vajapyee never got married

He had adopted Namita who is the daughter of Rajkumari Kaul,
Vajpayee’s classmate at Gwalior's Victoria College.

Namita is married to Ranjan Bhattacharya
who also served as an Officer on Special Duty,
when Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.

It's a message for all those who believe only sons can perform the last rites

Even in death, Vajpayee, sent a message
by going against the tradition of a male family member performing the last rites.

Vajpayee's mortal remains wrapped in a tri colour
were handed over to his granddaughter Niharika.

May his soul rest in peace!
