SIPRI reports India & China spend big on weapons during lockdown|ABP UNCUT

While the whole world battles the coronavirus pandemic countries such as India and China are topping the list for the highest spender on weapons. In Fact, both countries have left Russia behind in military expenses. According to a report by the global agency SIPRI (Stockholm international peace research institute), China and India fall in second and third place after America on buying weapons and other military equipment. While Russia is in fourth place, Saudi Arabia stands in fifth place. The report says that in 2019, the US spent around 732 billion dollars or 56 lakh crore which constitutes 38 percent of the military research and development expenses. China has spent 261 billion dollars or 19 lakh crore in a year on weapons and military equipment. In 2019, India spent 71.1 billion dollars that are around 5 and a half lakh crores which were over 6.8 percent higher than in 2018. In 2019 India’s military expenses were 3.7 percent in the global military expenses while China had around 14 percent. Russia contributed about 3.4 percent. The report by SIPRI which tracks Worldwide Military expenses said that India is spending so much because of Indo-Pak tensions and the enmity with Pakistan.
