In what comes as a major setback to Delhi Capitals in the ongoing thirteenth edition of the IPL in the UAE, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be out of action for at least a week , DC skipper Shreyas Iyer has confirmed.
Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman Pant has to miss out the game against defending champion Mumbai Indians after sustaining an injury during the match against Rajasthan Royals played at Sharjah last Friday (October 9), an encounter which Capitals won by 46 runs in Sharjah.
Pant was replaced by Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey in Sunday's high octane match with Mumbai Indians, which Iyer's team lost by five wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday (October 11).
"We have no idea, I spoke to the doctor. He said he (Pant) has to rest for a week. Hope he comes back really strong," Iyer said about Pant while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony after defeat against Rohit Sharma-led side.
Pant has been faring quite well with the willow in the ongoing IPL season in the UAE, notching up 176 runs in six matches with a strike rate of 133.33.
Delhi Capitals who have been dethroned by Mumbai Indians at the top of the points table after their 5-wicket loss are still comfortably placed on the second spot with 10 points from seven games. DC are scheduled to play Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday and then Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
