New Delhi: A Ukrainian soldier gave his girlfriend a moment to remember forever as he proposed to her at a roadblock on the frontline of Kyiv amidst a brutal war, as the Russian invasion in Kyiv entered its 13th day.

In a video that has been shared on social media, a soldier and his comrades could be seen questioning and frisking a group of people who were standing facing towards the car with their hands on the car roof.

One of the soldiers then knelt down behind his girlfriend and extended his arm in front of her while holding a ring.

As the girl turned around and realised what was happening, she screamed out with joy.

As the couple embraced and kissed each other, their pals and onlookers could be seen cheering and chanting for them.

In another video shared by Kyiv Mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, an army personnel could be seen officiating Lesya and Valeria’s marriage after which they were showered with flower petals among cheers by people around.

Klitschko in his tweet wrote that Lesya and Valeria had been in a civil marriage before they got married.

“Today I greeted the soldiers of one of the battalions of the capital's defense of the capital Lesya and Valeria. They have been living in a civil marriage for a long time, and now they have decided to get married. The ceremony took place next to one of the checkpoints. Life goes on! And we will protect the life of Kyiv, Kyivites, our state!” Klitschko captioned the video.

The couple has been together for 22 years and has a daughter. The bride had quit her job and joined territorial defence forces after Russia’s invasion on February 24, reported ABC.

“It is very sad that this (the Russian invasion) happened to us, that our family cannot be together. I’m happy that we are alive, that this day started, that my husband is alive, and he is with me. We decided who knows what will happen tomorrow. We should get married in front of the state, in front of God. And we have an adult daughter, and I think she’s happy that we finally did it,” quoted ABC as the bride spoke.
