New Delhi: A dance video posted by choreographer Usha Jey, who blended Bharatanatyam and Hip-Hop, is going viral on social media. The video posted by Jey on Twitter and Instagram has three dancers, including Jey, perform to Lil Wayne’s song 'Uproar', where they mix the graceful poses of Bharatanatyam and the freestyle movements of Hip-Hop. The post is being shared widely, with people watching the video on loop.
Jey calls it ‘Hybrid Bharatham'. In a tweet, she said: “I call this #HybridBharatham and this is my way of switching between Hip-Hop and Bharathanatyam, 2 dances that I love, learn and respect. My aim is to keep the essence of each dance and create something that do justice to who I am.”
The video opens with three dancers in traditional Bharatanatyam attire grooving to Uproar by Lil Wayne and then switching between Bharatanatyam and Hip-Hop — so seamlessly that it almost seems like one dance form.
