A flight from Australia to Japan left the passengers in shock after it "mistakenly" played an R-rated movie for its passengers due to some technical glitch. Passengers said there was "no way to turn it off" and the movie and obscene texts were displayed on each seat's screen, news.com.au reported.
The airline, Qantas, said individual movie selection was not available due to technical issues. So staff asked passengers what movie they would like to watch and soon the movie 'Daddio' (2023) was played to everyone on the flight.
The movie is rated 'R' for its explicit sexual material and graphic nudity. The crew attempted to fix the screens for customers who did not want to watch it. However, when they realised this was not possible, the film was changed to a children's movie.
"The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience," a Qantas spokesperson told news.com.au.
All Screens Switched To Another Movie
The spokesperson added that all screens were switched to another movie. "All screens were changed to a family-friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn't possible. The airline said it was reviewing how the movie was selected.
A passenger, who shared the experience on Reddit, said it was impossible to pause the film. "It was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off. Here's the kicker: the movie they played was extremely inappropriate. It featured graphic nudity and a lot of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones," he said.
The man added that it took the airline almost an hour to switch to a more kid-friendly movie. "It was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on-board," he added.
