Tea lovers across the world love to have their favourite drink in beautiful cups and saucers, including teapots. Some of these crockeries can be really expensive. But have you ever heard of a teapot costing $3,000,000, approximately Rs 24 crore? Yes, you heard that right. Named "The Egoist," the shining kettle set a world record for the most valuable teapot in 2016. The Guinness World Records shared pictures of the teapot on microblogging platform Twitter on August 9 after which it went viral.
According to the tweet of the records keeping company's, the teapot is owned by the N Sethia Foundation in the UK and is made from 18-carat yellow gold with cut diamond covering the entire body and a 6.67-carat ruby in the centre. The handle of the kettle is made from fossilised mammoth ivory. Italian jeweller Fulvio Scavia crafted the teapot which costs a whopping Rs 24 crore.
Since being shared, the post has garnered close to 80,000 views, 615 likes and tons of comments.
"I wanted to purchase it but I can’t use it to make tea, so I just dash it out," one user jokingly wrote in the comments box of the post.
"I'm stealing this, how can a teapot be richer and worth more than me, N Sethia Foundation needs to adopt me or else," joked another user.
"I'm curious, where did the foundation steal it from? I mean, seeing that most artifacts and antiques in the UK these days have been said to have been stolen from one colonized country or another," commented a third.
