New Delhi: A journalist's coverage of escalating tensions along the Russia-Ukraine border is being praised on social media for his multilingual skills. Philip Crowther, a reporter for The Associated Press Global Media Services, is known to be fluent in six languages (English, Luxembourgish, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German).
Reporter Philip Crowther took to his official Twitter handle to share a video of his reporting in six languages on Monday which went viral within a short period. He is currently in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, reporting on the Russia-Ukraine crisis. His six-language coverage, a 59-second video featuring him reporting for various news organizations, has been viewed over 5.5 million times. His post was flooded with people's reactions praising him for speaking six languages fluently.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Crowther completed his postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism from the University of Arts in London in 2008.
Crowther has mentioned his language proficiency on his LinkedIn profile: “US politics expert, fluent in global affairs, sports, and six languages: English, Spanish, French, Luxembourgish, German, and Portuguese.”
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday signed an order recognizing the independence of the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk Republic of Ukraine, increasing tension in the region and Moscow's Ukraine. The risk of attack has increased. Putin has also ordered Russian troops to go to these areas.

Meanwhile, the UK has slapped targeted economic sanctions against five Russian banks and three wealthy individuals on Tuesday.
While addressing the lawmakers in the House of Commons, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the first tranche would target Rossiya bank, IS bank, General bank, Promsvyazbank, and the Black Sea bank.
The three “high net worth” individuals: Gennady Timchenko, Boris Rotenberg, and Igor Rotenberg will also be sanctioned and will be barred from visiting the country, said Johnson.
