The IndiGo airlines on Sunday hosted Param Vir Chakra awardee Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar on its Pune-bound flight and was felicitated by the aircraft crew before the take-off. In a video shared by the airline online, the flight captain could be seen giving the details of the flight before he welcomed the war hero aboard. As other passengers expressed their admiration with applause, the airline presented a small token of gratitude to Kumar, commemorating his service to the nation. 


"Today, we have a very special person with us...we have Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar ji, a recipient of the Param Vir Chakra," said Captain Edsel standing in the passenger cabin.  


Sharing the video on its social media handle, the airline captioned it, “Flying with a hero.” 






The video has garnered 1.1 million views since being shared on Twitter on Sunday while netizens are lauding the airline for its gesture. 


"Love you indigo", "Great gesture", "Appreciate the gesture" were some of the comments on the video.

The Param Vir Chakra is the highest military award conferred for displaying distinguished acts of valour during wartime. 


Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, one of the 21 recipients, was awarded the Param Vir Chakra on July 4, 1999 for his valour during the Kargil War fought between India and Pakistan in 1999.


Hailing from Himachal Pradesh’s Bakain village in Bilaspur, Kumar (47), was enrolled in the Indian Army in June 1996 and served in the '13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles' regiment, as per a Hindustan Times report.
