The first-ever mobile tower has been installed at the Siachen Glacier, which is the highest battlefield in the world at more than 15,500 feet. Indian Army in collaboration with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) set up the tower. The Base Transceiver Station (BTS) was established at the forward post of the highest battlefield on October 6 for the Army soldiers.
The Indian Army’s Leh-based Fire and Fury Corps took to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday to share the development.
"#Siachen Warriors in collaboration with BSNL established first ever BSNL BTS at forward posts of the highest battlefield on 06 October to extend mobile communication for the soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet," read the caption of the post shared along with few pictures by the the Fire and Fury Corps.
The news was also shared by Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan on X. The minister shared some pictures and wrote, "BSNL with Siachen Warriors installs first-ever mobile tower at Siachen Glacier. Now our heroes can talk to their near and dear ones at their convenience. Kudos to @BSNLCorporate and #SiachenWarriors."
Anand Mahindra, chairperson of the Mahindra Group, also expressed his happiness over the news and said, "this device is as important as the Vikram Lander."
Taking to X Mahindra wrote, "These are photos shared by @devusinh of the first ever mobile tower installed in Siachen! A seemingly small event in our turbulent world. But it means our Jawans who put their lives on the line every single day on the world’s highest battlefield to defend us are now strongly connected to their families. For them, this device is as important as the Vikram Lander. To me, this is really BIG news."
Mahindra's post on the mobile tower has gone viral and has so far fetched 253.6K views. It has also garnered a tons of comments.
"They are the real heroes. Because of them we are safe. Hat's off to them," commented one user on the post.
"This small symbol of connectivity serves as a testament to the dedication and bravery of our Jawans," wrote another user.
"Good initiative by the government! We should continue strengthening border infrastructure further, to mitigate external threats, commented a third.
