A video showing a heated exchange between a local Bengaluru resident and a non-Kannada speaker is going viral. The incident captured on the phone went viral on social media. In the video, a local raises questions about cultural respect and language in Karnataka.
The viral video shows a local man confronting the non-Kannada speaker, expressing frustration over his inability to communicate in Kannada after living and working in the state for 12 years. He accuses the individual of showing “disrespect” towards the local culture.
It was posted on X with a captioned, "This is Good. Question the Lazy folks 12yrs in Karnataka and yet to understand and learn Kannada? That says only Two things, Zero Curiosity and willingness to Learn, and Arrogance towards Local Culture and Language."

The video opens with a local Bengaluru resident arguing with a non-Kannada speaker from behind the camera. The resident said, "You don't know the Kannada? why? you have to learn right? you have to respect every culture and every language. For the last 12 years, you have been living here but don't know Kannada."
In return, the non-Kannada speaker asked the locals, "Do you know Hindi?" He replied, "Yes I know Hindi because I respect every culture".
The local added, "Why are you staying here? You want a job here, you want a salary here but not language? I am not fighting I am just requesting you." "Hello, sir! If nothing then at least learn Kannada here because this is Bengaluru, not Mumbai or Gujarat," he also said.
When the non-Kannada speaker asked "Who are you to tell me?" he replied, " Because I am Kannadiga. This is our state and our India. We have to respect every culture and language." In response, the non-Kannada speaker said, "It is my choice."
Social Media Reacts To Viral Video
Soon after the video went viral on social media, netizens were heavily crticised for compelling and scolding someone to learn their regional language. Some of them question South Indians for not speaking Hindi well too, and said, "South Indians don't speak Hindi well too. But who is holding a gun to their head??"
The next criticised, "You support Virat Kohli and he's part of RCB for 16yrs. Ask him to learn Kannad or else tell the RCB management not to retain him. Can you do.. please."
Another stated, "I'm from Punjab, living in Gurgaon(Haryana) since past 18 years, never forced to learn and speak Haryanavi. That's the best part of our country.Imagine Diljit doing a concert in Karnataka and being asked to sing in Kannada."
"Who the hell you are ask us to learn Kannada. Its none of your business. It’s our wish whether to learn or not. You don’t have any right to make it mandatory. Its not an arrogance, its his wish. You stay in AP or Telangana and we never force you to learn Telugu Language. This is India not Afghanistan, " the next also lashed out.
Another also said, "Bro if you settle in US, will you learn English or not? Likewise u should learn Kannada when you are settled in Karnataka. Simple logic, artha maadko bolimagne."
