In response to a widely circulated video depicting water leakage within an Air India flight, the airline has issued an official statement to provide clarity on the incident, news agency PTI reported. The video, which gained attention on social media platforms on the morning of November 30, captured water dripping from the overhead bins onto passenger seats, prompting a flurry of discussions online.

The incident occurred during the operation of Flight AI169 from Gatwick to Amritsar on November 24, as detailed in the statement released by Air India. The airline acknowledged the unusual circumstance, attributing it to a "rare occurrence of condensation adjustment inside the cabin". According to the statement, guests seated in the affected rows were promptly relocated to other vacant seats, and the cabin crew made diligent efforts to ensure the comfort of the passengers, the report said.

"Air India is committed to the safety and comfort of guests on board, and we regret this unexpected incident," the statement read, as reported by PTI. "Some of our guests seated in the affected rows were promptly relocated to other vacant seats and given the circumstances the cabin crew made every effort to make the guests comfortable. Air India is committed to the safety and comfort of guests on board and we regret this unexpected incident," it said further.

The video, which showed water dripping incessantly onto passenger seats, led to initial speculations on social media regarding the cause of the leakage. However, Air India's statement aims to dispel any uncertainties surrounding the incident, emphasizing the proactive measures taken by the airline to address the situation promptly.

The recent water leak incident, which saw water dripping from the overhead compartments, alarmed passengers and raised concerns about Air India's fleet maintenance. This incident is similar to one that occurred in 2018 when an Air India plane's door was not properly secured, forcing the flight to make an emergency landing. These incidents, along with reports of passengers discovering a rat on an Air India flight in 2021, have raised concerns about the airline's hygiene standards and overall service quality. Such incidents can undermine passenger trust and harm an airline's reputation.
