A woman took to social media and shared that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) allotted her a seat among five men in the compartment. She also said that there were no women in adjacent.
The criticism against the Indian Railway came on social media platform X with the caption, "Hats off to IRCTC for the great work in providing a seat to a girl among five men in the compartment, with no adjacent female."
Social Media Users Reacts To Post
In response to the woman's criticism against the IRCTC, one of the users on X, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, who claimed herself a Journalist, Filmmaker, and Social Activist stated "You're not a girl but a grown-up woman Pallavi & I am sure your existence doesn't get threatened by mere presence of men around you."
"Sure you wouldn't have complained if only men came to fix any technical problem there. Sure you wouldn't have complained if any unfortunate incident happened and only men from the police or railway came to rescue. Sure you wouldn't complain about all the men ensuring the smooth running of this train," she also said.
"I have travelled umpteen times in trains & have found men only being helpful whether with luggage or swapping seats or any help. Yes, some men behave obnoxiously in public transport but that doesn't seem to be the case here as you look quite cheerful taking that selfie. Please stop demonizing a gender. Someday a woman may post a picture of your brother feeling threatened by him just because he's a man. Do better," she added.
Covering the woman's criticism against the users, one of the netizens wrote also wrote, "To the boys criticising her in the comments: First, understand this – this is India, a country with one of the highest rates of sexual violence against women. This isn’t Norway or Singapore, where women can feel safe even at midnight. Focus on fixing the problem, not blaming her."
Another said, "India is not even in the top 25 when it comes to Violence against women and Norway is in top 5 in Europe when it comes to Violence against women…so stop bluffing just for the sake of it, if the person is concerned about safety either she should have used Ladies quota or if she needs luxury could have booked 1A, dont have to whine about everything and project as if every male is a creep."
The next said, "I empathize with her, and as a man I get out of any place ....which includes a gym, coffee , bar which is teeming with men, I'm uncomfortable, it's kind of creepy, I understand her plight."
