He shared that he didn’t possess a home or a vehicle and was free from financial responsibilities. A brief period spent working in the US entitled him to a monthly post-tax income of about $1,000 (roughly Rs 84,000) after turning 62. Yet, even this financial cushion did little to alleviate his sense of burnout.

"Do not own a house or a car. No debt. Had a brief stint in the US, which will give me around 1000 USD post-tax per month once I turn 62. I am completely exhausted and tired of this 9 to 5 and have developed some kind of chronic fatigue," he said.

"Always stressed and always thinking of deadlines at work. Developed health problems and pretty much hate everything. I am not in tech, and the job I have is not easy to get, so if I quit getting anything like this in the future, it would be nearly impossible, he added.

He also noted that he wasn’t part of the tech sector, which made changing careers more difficult. This left him caught in a tough choice — continue with a job that was mentally exhausting or quit without having a clear alternative.

Netizens React To Viral Post

After that once you go back to work and still hate it you can retire. I think you have money and stable source for later, but it is still few years down the line. Plus having a house if you plan for pets becomes a little necessary, " a user said.

The next also said, "Get a teaching job or some job which is less stressful then existing job. Get a small budget flat in hill station max 30-50 lakhs. Retire and relax. Clean air , go for walk in hills and retire."
