The Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad announced the loss of a nine-year-old white Bengal tiger, Abhimanyu, due to nephritis. Zoo officials reported on Tuesday that the male tiger had been battling nephritis, a renal condition, since April of last year.

Abhimanyu was born at the same zoo on January 2, 2015, to parents Badri and Surekha/Sameera.

The zoo family mourns the loss of Abhimanyu, zoo authorities said.

Veterinary experts, tiger specialists, and other zoos were consulted about Abhimanyu's health condition. They recommended various medications and treatments to address his issues.

However, recently, Abhimanyu's condition began to deteriorate, and since May 5, he has been unable to wake up or walk properly.

Zoo officials reported that the animal had been suffering from rheumatism, a condition that encompasses arthritis and various other afflictions impacting joints, tendons, muscles, ligaments, and other bodily structures and had stopped eating since May 12.

For the past three days, Abhimanyu had been in a critical state with lateral recumbency. Fluid therapy and medications were administered in an effort to revive him. Despite the best efforts of the wildlife hospital and rescue center's dedicated veterinary doctors, experts, and animal keepers, the big cat succumbed to his condition at 2:15 p.m. on May 14 (Tuesday) in his enclosure.

"We have conducted the post-mortem in the presence of veterinary experts from VBRI and CVSc, Hyderabad and the cause of death was inferred to be chronic renal failure. All samples were collected and sent to VBRI, Hyderabad for detailed laboratory diagnosis," the Zoo said, as per a report on IANS.

The zoo mourned the loss of this majestic animal, who had been a significant attraction and beloved resident.

Last year, a 10-year-old Royal Bengal Tiger died at a Zoo in Hyderabad due to renal failure. The zoo officials also said that the tiger was suffering from dyspepsia and loss of appetite.
