Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy as the party candidate for the Munugode by-election, on Friday. The Munugode Assembly seat became vacant after the resignation of Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy on August 8.
Reddy submitted his resignation after joining BJP during a public event in Munugode in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to the ABP Desam report, while choosing the candidate, CM KCR carefully examined public opinion polls and surveys. It appears that all of them backed Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy.
Prabhakar Reddy was also in-charge Munugode constituency and has been working for the party's welfare since its inception.
Prabhakar Reddy worked as the in-charge of the Munugode constituency in 2003. Later, he was elected to the legislative assembly from the Maheshwaram constituency in 2009 and 2014. In 2018, he contested from the Munugode constituency and lost by a slender majority.

Earlier, the Congress fielded Palvai Sravanthi as the party's candidate for the upcoming Munugode bypoll in Telangana.
Munugode Assembly constituency has seven mandals, two municipalities, 176-gram panchayats and 288 polling booths.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) earlier announced that the bypoll for the Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana would be held on November 3. The panel also announced by-polls to six other vacant Assembly seats in five states.
The other constituencies where by-polls will be conducted on the same day are Andheri East in Maharashtra, Mokama and Gopalganj in Bihar, Adampur in Haryana, Gola Gokran Nath in Uttar Pradesh and Dhamnagar in Odisha.
