Hyderabad: Telangana Textiles Minister KT Rama Rao challenged BJP state president Bandi Sanjay on Sunday to pressure the Union government to approve more welfare schemes and development programmes for the weavers' community in the State.
KTR criticised the BJP in an open letter to Sanjay for its anti-weaver policies, which have thrown the industry into disarray.
KTR told Bandi Sanjay to ask the Centre for funds for Kakatiya Mega Textiles Park in Warangal. He wrote that Sanjay should demand that the Union government build a national textile research institute, an Indian Institute of Handlooms and Technology, and a mega power loom cluster in Telangana.
He said that the KCR government had implemented measures for the welfare of weavers that no other state government had done. Many projects are being implemented in order to benefit handloom workers. He further said that Telangana is now standing as a guide for the country. Previous governments had neglected the welfare of the weavers for decades with a meagre budget.

He added that the TRS government is implementing a 'Chenetha Mitra' scheme with a 40 per cent subsidy for handloom workers and a saving scheme 'Netannaku Cheyutha' like nowhere else in the country.
