New Delhi: The Telangana government on Sunday announced that the schools and colleges will remain shut from July 11-13 across the state as torrential rains lash the state leading to submerging of buildings. KCR chaired a high-level review meeting at Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad to inspect the inundated towns. Several ministers, MLAs, CS and other officials took part in the review meet.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has ordered the officials to take immediate measures to prevent loss of life and minimize the disruption in the wake of incessant rains. Also, instructions have been issued to the higher authorities about the protection measures to be taken in the low-lying areas and flood-prone areas.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad City Police issued an advisory to the public in a Facebook post.

"A red alert has been sounded by the meteorological department for the next two days. There is a heavy cloud covering over entire Telangana. A lot of flooding, overflowing of rivulets and lakes, roads getting cut, etc are expected which will throw regular life out of gear," the city police said in a Facebook post.

"All educational institutions have been closed by the government for three days. The Hyderabad City Police is issuing this advisory to the general public immediately that in view of the expected heavy rainfalls, the public may please avoid non-essential travel and kindly watch the weather and rain forecasts before venturing out. All precautions maybe taken in and around your homes too."
