New Delhi: An 80-year-old man died as the battery of an electric scooter exploded in their house in Telangana's Nizamabad on Tuesday night. The man's wife and grandson also suffered severe burn injuries due to the explosion, said a Times of India report. The deceased has been identified as B Ramaswamy. According to the police, B Prakash, who is Ramaswamy's son, is the owner of the electric scooter.
On Tuesday night at around 12.30 AM, Prakash put the battery of the scooter on charge in the living room, where his old parents and son Kalyan were sleeping. Prakash and his wife were sleeping in the bedroom, Times of India reported.

"At 12.30 AM Prakash put the battery on charge and at around 4 AM, it exploded triggering flames. Ramaswamy, his wife and Kalyan suffered burn injuries. Prakash and his wife too sustained minor injuries on their hands while trying to douse the flames," Sai Nath, Sub-Inspector at Nizamabad III Town police station said, as quoted by the Times of India.
Later Ramaswamy along with his wife and grandson, who suffered burn injuries, were shifted to a nearby local hospital. But Ramaswamy's condition reportedly became critical and he succumbed to the injuries while he was being shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment.
Ramaswamy's son Prakash in his complaint to police alleged that the mishap occurred and his father died due to the lack of proper standards in the battery.
