Former MLA from Alur constituency, Patil Neeraja Reddy, 50, died in a road accident near Itikyala village in Gadyal Jogulamba district in Telangana on Sunday. She was coming from Hyderabad to Kurnool when her car overturned after a tyre burst on National Highway No. 44 in Itikyala Mandal in Telangana.
Neeraja Reddy, with severe head and body injuries, was rushed to the hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
"Neeraja Reddy was returning from Hyderabad to Kurnool in her car when one of the rear tyres of the vehicle burst, resulting in the car veering off the road and tumbling down the steep gradient beyond the carriageway. The accident is said to have occurred around 4.40 p.m" Alampur Circle Inspector told The Hindu.
Neeraja Reddy was elected on the Congress ticket in 2009, but in 2019, she joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). Later, she switched loyalty to the BJP. Her husband Patil Sheshi Reddy, former MLA of Pathikonda, was killed during faction violence in 1996.
Neeraja Reddy was appointed party chief of the Alur constituency after joining the BJP. Andhra Pradesh BJP general secretary S. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, in a statement, expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
