Zoom has introduced a groundbreaking update to its AI Companion, transforming it from a simple assistant into an advanced agentic AI capable of executing complex tasks. The latest enhancements leverage reasoning and memory to take action, manage workflows, and integrate seamlessly with third-party AI agents. This move is set to redefine how users interact with AI across Zoom’s ecosystem, including Zoom Meetings, Zoom Docs, Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Phone, and more.

“AI Companion is evolving from a personal assistant to being truly agentic, which signals a major leap forward in how AI can enhance productivity and collaboration at work,” said Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom. “We’re delivering value for our customers through AI agents and agentic skills that solve real customer problems, helping them connect, collaborate, and get more done, all within the Zoom platform our users trust and love.”

Enhanced Productivity with New AI Capabilities

Zoom’s AI Companion now includes specialised agents designed to boost efficiency. Features such as AI-powered calendar management, automated clip generation, and advanced writing assistance are set to simplify workflows for users. Additionally, AI Companion extends its capabilities to support Zoom Business Services, where the Zoom Virtual Agent applies reasoning skills to handle customer self-service tasks effectively.

Steven Carroll, chief information officer at Saint Leo University, highlighted the impact of Zoom’s AI technology, stating, “This technology isn’t just about efficiency; it allows our employees to spend less time on manual tasks and more time on meaningful collaboration, and focus on what matters most: supporting our students’ educational journey.”

Customisation and Future Expansion

Zoom is also introducing a customisable AI Companion add-on, allowing businesses to tailor AI functions to their unique needs. Organisations will be able to create custom meeting templates, integrate industry-specific vocabulary, and access specialised AI-driven agents for functions like sales automation and IT support. Additionally, Zoom’s AI Companion will soon integrate with third-party agents, enabling users to streamline operations by leveraging external AI models.

With its federated AI approach, Zoom continues to refine its AI capabilities, incorporating Small Language Models (SLMs) alongside Large Language Models (LLMs) for enhanced efficiency. The AI Companion remains free for users with paid Zoom accounts, though certain advanced features and third-party integrations may come at an additional cost.

As Zoom continues to push AI boundaries, these latest updates mark a significant step toward a more intelligent, automated, and user-friendly experience for businesses and individuals alike.
