The dates for Apple World Wide Developers Conference 2024 have been announced. The event will be held at Apple Park from June 10 to June 14. The event will embrace technology to reach people across the globe. Among many other speculations, iPadOS 18 and WatchOS 11 are expected to debut at the event. But what can we expect from these two? In this article, we will dive into iPadOS 18 and WatchOS 11 in detail to understand what we might get from them.

Let us first go over the details that we might see in iPadOS 18 and then proceed to WatchOS 11.

iPadOS 18: What We Know

Given the increasing demand among consumers for generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Apple is poised to place a significant emphasis on AI enhancements in iOS 18. These updates are anticipated to encompass various apps and features, with Apple actively developing extensive language models to enhance in-app functionalities.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, announced in February the company's substantial investment in artificial intelligence, highlighting its commitment to this area. Cook also mentioned that Apple intends to reveal more details about its ongoing AI initiatives later this year.

It's reported that Apple is preparing to integrate AI across various aspects of iOS 18, enhancing several of its native applications. For instance, Apple Music may introduce automatically generated playlists, while productivity apps like Pages and Keynote could offer AI-powered assistance for content creation tasks.

While Apple may not introduce its own generative AI chatbot in iOS 18, it might consider incorporating a chat feature utilising technology from Google or OpenAI.

Siri is expected to benefit from Apple's AI advancements in iOS 18. According to leaks, Apple is exploring the use of large-language models (LLMs) to overhaul Siri completely, aiming to transform it into the "ultimate virtual assistant."

Rumours indicate that Siri will feature improved natural language capabilities and enhanced personalisation for users.

Bloomberg suggests that among the specific enhancements in development is an improved integration between Siri and the Messages app. This would enable Siri to better auto-complete sentences and provide answers to complex queries.

watchOS 11: What We Know

There is limited information available regarding the features of watchOS 11. However, according to Bloomberg, it is anticipated to be a relatively minor update. This decision aligns with Apple's strategy, considering the substantial overhaul the Apple Watch received in the previous year, indicating that major new features may not be in the pipeline for 2024.

However, we might see some changes like revamped workout mode, improved sleep tracking, new watch faces, and much more.

  • Revamped Workout: Should Apple continue its pattern, there's a possibility that the company will enhance one of its workout features. In the past, watchOS 9 brought enhancements to outdoor run metrics, while watchOS 10 improved cycling and hiking workouts by providing additional information and supporting Live Activities on the iPhone. While it's uncertain which workout will receive a revamp in 2024, such an update would certainly be appreciated by users.

  • Improved Sleep Tracking: Since the release of watchOS 9, Apple Watch users have had the ability to track their sleep. Although there were expectations for notable improvements in watchOS 10, they did not materialise. However, with the upcoming watchOS 11, it is possible that Apple will introduce additional data or insights to enhance sleep measurement capabilities.

  • New Watch Faces: Apple has also added new watch faces in recent updates. It’s unclear what this update will bring, but it is likely that users might get at least one new face in this upcoming cycle.
