New Delhi: Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is working to introduce a feature that has been much sought after by a lot of users on the platform. The feature will bring the ability to exit WhatsApp groups without notifying every member with a small message inside the group, according to WABetaInfo. This comes days after the company increased the group size limit to 512 people.
"After releasing larger groups (up to 512 people) to certain users, WhatsApp is now working on another useful feature for groups: the ability to silently exit groups in a future update!," the WhatsApp beta tracker wrote on its page.
This development also follows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's mention of the ability to silently exit groups was under development. WABetaInfo shared a screenshot to explain how the feature would notify only the group admins and the user itself when they exit a group on WhatsApp. However, the feature is under development and it is not available for even beta users yet.
"This screenshot is very clear: when you want to exit a WhatsApp group, other people won’t be notified in the chat. Only group admins will be able to see who exits the group, but others don’t. What does it mean? When you exit a group, WhatsApp normally adds a system message in the chat to inform all participants that you exited the group: this information will only show up to group admins in the future," WABetaInfo wrote on its page.
"Group admins should always be notified about what happens in their groups, so it is needed to show them who exited a group."
Earlier this month, the Meta-owned platform started rolling out the ability for users on Android, iOS, Web and Desktop to react to messages. The company's message reactions feature was announced late on Thursday evening and the much-awaited feature brings the ability to post emoji reactions on the latest version of the app. The company added that it will continue improving them by adding an even broader range of expressions in the future.
