Meta-owned WhatsApp is with a new feature designed to prevent accounts from sending spam messages. The messaging app, the world's most popular, has experienced an increase in spam and bulk messaging from business and marketing numbers, causing annoyance for users and therefore, this feature aims to mitigate the spread of spam.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature to limit spammy WhatsApp accounts was detected in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.10.5 update.

Currently in the testing phase, this feature is exclusively available to beta testers on Android. We can anticipate its broader rollout to all users in the near future through a forthcoming update. We will keep you updated of any official developments, so stay tuned for updates.

As per the screenshot posted by WABetaInfo, the app will notify users when their account is restricted with a warning banner. While under restriction, users will be unable to send new messages or initiate new chats on the instant messaging platform. However, they can still receive messages in existing chats or groups and even respond to those messages.

This demonstrates the Meta-owned platform's commitment to allowing users to rectify their behaviour. The feature appears to be a preferable alternative to outright account bans, which can cause inconvenience to users.

According to the report, WhatsApp will utilise automated tools to identify automated bulk messaging or spam-like behaviour.

These tools will determine whether messages are generated by automated scripts or sent at a high frequency. However, the content of chats and messages will remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring WhatsApp does not have access to them.

Meanwhile, WABetaInfo's recent report highlights WhatsApp's efforts to enhance its Channels feature with a range of user-friendly updates.

These improvements aim to create a more seamless experience for users in discovering and engaging with channels. For instance, the entry point for creating and exploring channels will become more accessible, enhancing overall navigation within the app.
