New Delhi: Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp will not work on some Android smartphones, and also a few iPhone models, from November 1.
WhatsApp will stop supporting systems running on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, iOS 9, and KaiOS 2.5.0, starting November 1, according to information shared on the platform’s FAQ section.
WhatsApp says it will provide support for Android devices that are running OS 4.1 and newer, and if the phone is able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process.
It also offers “limited support” for Android tablets that have an active SIM card and don't support Wi-Fi only devices.
Stating that WhatsApp will no longer support Android phones running OS 4.0.4 and older on November 1, 2021, the FAQ section tells users to “switch to a supported device or save your chat history before then”.
About iPhones, the platform says a user requires iOS 10 or newer versions to be on the platform.
Asking people to use the latest version of iOS available, WhatsApp says it can't provide support for “devices using modified versions of the iPhone's operating system”.
The Android phones list released by the company includes smartphones from Samsung, LG, ZTE, Huawei, Sony, Alcatel, among others. These phone models will be incompatible with the app and not receive support from WhatsApp, according to reports.

All iPhone users who want to check the operating system (OS) their smartphone model is running on should go to Settings, and then to the general and information option. Tap software, and you will be able to see the OS that is running your iPhone.
