New Delhi: WhatsApp is working to introduce a feature that would let extend the message-deleting time to a week from the current time limit of a little more than an hour. According to reports, this time limit is likely to be increased significantly via an update that is under works.
According to WABetaInfo, a beta tracker of WhatsApp, the new update that will bring the message deletion feature has been spotted on WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2147.4. Currently, users can delete messages for everyone within 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds.
"If you follow us, you surely know that we have recently announced that WhatsApp was working on some changes for the time limit in the article about WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.23.1. In particular, we’ve explained that WhatsApp was planning to allow message deletion for everyone without restrictions: it means that you could also delete very old messages in a future update," WABetaInfo wrote on its page late on Tuesday.
Notably, this feature is currently under development and that means it is not even available for beta users right now.
WABetaInfo has also posted a screenshot of the purported feature and explained how it will work.
"As you can see in this screenshot, there aren’t messages in this conversation sent today, so the alert to delete the message for everyone refers to a message sent at least the day before: so you can understand it will be possible to delete messages for everyone older than 1 hour, 8 minutes, 16 seconds at a later date," the beta tracker of WhatApp added.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also working on a playback speed feature for audio messages which has been spotted in beta on iOS. An audio message is essentially a voice note only, but it is a forwarded file.
The feature to play voice notes using different playback speeds became a success and that is what may have prompted the development team at the Meta-owned (formerly Facebook) messaging platform to test adding a playback feature for audio messages.
