Meta-owned WhatsApp on Tuesday introduced a new feature called "Favourites", in a bid to enhance user experience. Favourites filter on WhatsApp allows users to quickly access their most important contacts and groups, and streamlining communication with these priority connections. The Favourites feature, which began its rollout on Tuesday, will become available to all WhatsApp users over the next few weeks, the company announced.
The feature provides a convenient way to gather chats from close friends and family groups in one easily accessible location.
The Meta-owned company also made the announcement on X, formerly Twitter.
In addition to chat organisation, the world's most-popular messaging platform has incorporated a Favourites section within the calls tab. This addition enables users to initiate calls to their preferred contacts more efficiently, thus, eliminating the need to search through recent call logs or contact lists.
Users can add contacts or groups to their Favourites list through various methods. These include selecting the Favourites filter on the chats screen, using the "Add Favourite" option in the calls tab, or long-pressing a chat and choosing "Add to Favourite." WhatsApp also offers a management option for Favourite contacts and groups in the app's settings, allowing users to add, remove, and reorder their selections as desired.
How To Add Favourites On WhatsApp
- From your chats screen, select the ‘favorites’ filter, and select your contacts or groups there
- From the calls tab, tap ‘Add favorite’ and select your contacts or groups.
- Or, simply manage your ‘favorites’ in your settings by going to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favourites, and you can reorder them at any time
Reports indicate that WhatsApp had been testing this feature on iOS and web platforms since February, with Android testing following in April, as noted by WhatsApp beta testing app WABetaInfo.
Meanwhile, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform is also said to be rolling out a new interface for the bottom calling bar to everyone.
This update, as spotted by WABetaInfo, improves the bottom calling bar, makes the profile photo larger and adds a modern design to enhance the interface's overall look. The new interface is available for iOS users who install the latest update of WhatsApp from the App Store.
