Meta-owned WhatsApp is working to introduce a feature that would let users customise avatars that can be used as profile pictures, according to WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo. In a bid to enhance the overall user experience, WhatsApp is working to introduce the avatar feature for users on Android, iOS and desktops.

Users on the world's most popular messaging platform would be able to customise their avatars using emojis and joining the ranks of stickers, GIFs and emojis.

"As you can see in this screenshot, you will be able to choose the perfect avatar for you by customising it. In addition, you will also be able to choose a background colour to use within the profile photo. Note that, even if the screenshot is taken from WhatsApp beta for Android, the ability to set up the avatar profile photo will also be available on WhatsApp beta for iOS and Desktop beta," WABetaInfo wrote on its page.

It is likely that this feature would be made available for users in the distant future since the feature is in an early stage of development only.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also likely working on making a unique addition to status updates soon. As per WABetaInfo last month, the Meta-owned company was working on the ability for users to share voice notes as a status update that could be called “voice status”. The feature is being tested and has been spotted in WhatsApp for Android beta v2.22.16.3, as per WABetaInfo.

"What’s new in this update? WhatsApp is working on voice notes for status updates, for a future update of the app! Today, thanks to the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.16.3 update, we can finally announce that WhatsApp is planning to extend the functionality of status updates by adding the support for voice notes," WABetaInfo had written on its page.

The beta tracker of WhatsApp added that the voice notes shared as a status update may be called “voice status”.
