Truecaller, a widely-used app among Android users, has historically had limited appeal on iOS due to the absence of one critical feature: Live Caller ID. While iPhone users could search for numbers within the app after receiving a call, they were never notified in real time about who was calling. That has now changed.

On Wednesday, Truecaller announced the launch of its live caller ID feature for iPhones, marking a significant upgrade for iOS users.

Truecaller Now Works On iPhones

Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi first hinted at this development in September 2024, expressing his hope that users would soon say, "Truecaller finally works on iPhones."

This update is undoubtedly a welcome addition to the app, but it raises an intriguing question: will this move significantly boost adoption among iPhone users? Apple recently introduced its own caller ID suggestion feature, which predicts who might be calling based on data from your messages and emails. However, Truecaller’s vast database of phone numbers and identities provides a more robust and accurate caller ID solution, potentially giving it an edge over Apple’s system.

In addition to live caller ID, Truecaller now brings spam call blocking to iOS, a feature that can automatically prevent unwanted calls. The app also enables iPhone users to search previously identified calls, allowing them to review up to 2,000 past numbers from the recent list in the Phone app. With these enhancements, Truecaller aims to elevate its relevance on iOS, providing users with a more comprehensive and efficient caller identification experience.

The number search and caller ID features on Truecaller will primarily be available to Premium subscribers. However, free users on iOS can also access the feature, albeit with advertisements. The auto-blocking of spam calls remains accessible to all users worldwide. The updated Caller ID functionality is scheduled for rollout starting January 22.

How Can iOS Users Enable Caller ID On Truecaller App?

To activate the caller ID feature on the Truecaller app for iOS, ensure your iPhone is running iOS 18.2 or later and that your Truecaller app is updated to version 14.0 or higher. Once ready, navigate to your iPhone’s Settings, go to Apps, then Phone, followed by Call Blocking & Identification.

Enable all the Truecaller switches listed. After completing this step, open the Truecaller app again. The rest of the configuration will be completed automatically, and the feature will be ready to use.
