Disney+ Hotstar Aims To Limit Password Sharing
Days after streaming giant Netflix ended password sharing in India, Walt Disney's streaming service Disney+ Hotstar has decided to launch a crackdown on password sharing in the country. According to news agency Reuters, Disney+ Hotstar is intending to limit password sharing and therefore, it would allow only four devices to have access to a premium subscription account. The report added, citing two sources with direct knowledge of the matter, this is the streaming company's attempt to check password sharing in India.
Redmi 12 5G Launching In India On Aug 1
Handset maker Xiaomi is set to launch Redmi 12 5G and Redmi 12 4G models in India on August 1. Redmi India has announced that the Redmi 12 5G will make its global debut in India at an event on Tuesday. The Redmi 12 4G was unveiled last month in several regions. The handset maker has not officially detailed the Redmi 12 5G's specs, but it has revealed a few key specs of the device that include 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a 50MP primary camera, and a 5,000mAh battery. Redmi 12 5G is said to be unveiled in a Moonstone colourway with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard memory.
Twitter Doing Away With Dim Mode
Twitter which recently rebranded to "X" will now support dark mode and light mode and the former would be made the default option. Twitter has undergone a number of changes since tech billionaire Elon Musk's takeover. Musk has been known for posting a lot from his personal Twitter handle, or X handle and recently, he posted that the micro-blogging site would “soon only have dark mode” as “it is better in every way.” However, Musk later confirmed that Twitter is doing away with "dim mode" and that only dark and light modes would remain.
AMD To Invest $400 Million In India
Chipset-making major Advanced Micro Devices or AMD has said it is going to invest around $400 million in India, in a bid to expand research, development and engineering operations in the country. AMD would make the investment over the next five years and it is also mulling to set up a new campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka with the largest R&D facility in the world, the media has reported. The announcement was made by Mark Papermaster, AMD's CTO, who was speaking at an annual semiconductor conference in Gujarat. Other prominent chipset makers present at the conference included Foxconn, the biggest contract manufacturer of Apple iPhones and Micron.
WhatsApp Makes Sharing Short Videos Easy
Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows users to share personal videos directly within their chats. This move comes as an extension of its voice message functionality. In a recent blog post, WhatsApp expressed their its for the new feature, stating that video messages will enable real-time responses in a visual format, allowing users to convey their thoughts and emotions within 60 seconds. The company believes that this will add a fun and expressive element to communication, facilitating the sharing of special moments, birthday wishes, laughter at jokes, and the announcement of good news.
Google News Director Laid Off
Madhav Chinnappa, Google’s Director of News Ecosystem Development has been sacked by the tech giant. Chinnappa said that he was being let go amid layoffs at Google, after a stint of almost 13 years. Chinnappa took to LinkedIn to announce that he was laid off. But, he added that he is in the “privileged position of being able to have some time to figure out his next move". The Indian-origin senior executive added that he is on a "gardening leave" at the moment.
PS5 Sales Surpass 40 Million Units
Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that its highly sought-after gaming console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5), has achieved a notable milestone by surpassing 40 million units sold. The PS5 was officially launched in November 2020, following a captivating reveal the previous year. Since then, an impressive 40 million consoles have been snapped up by enthusiastic players worldwide. Back in February, Sony had reported shipping 32 million units, meaning that in just five months, an additional 8 million consoles have been sold, marking a significant surge in sales.
