Spotify is rolling out a new ability for Spotify Premium users that would let them use the play and shuffle buttons on the playlists separately. According to the Swedish music streaming giant, making separate buttons for playing and shuffling music is to improve the listener experience.

The new separate play and shuffle buttons on the playlists would allow users to choose the mode they prefer at the top of playlists and albums and listen music the way they want to. The company will be rolling out this update for both iOS and Android mobile devices for Spotify Premium users worldwide over the coming weeks.

"Music—and how you listen to it—should be yours to control. So from the moment you hit play on Spotify, you decide the way you want to hear your favourite playlists or that new album you’re obsessed with. So to make that choice even clearer and simpler, we’re improving the listener experience and separating the Shuffle and Play Buttons for Spotify Premium users," the company said in a statement.

This comes at a time when China's ByteDance-owned TikTok is reportedly working to introduce a music streaming app that would rival the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.

According to a patent filed by TikTok parent ByteDance with the US Trademark Office for “TikTok Music" in May, the company may be working to introduce a music discovery app, as cited by a report by Business Insider. As per the filing by ByteDance, the service would let users purchase, play, share, and download music, similar to what music streaming giant Spotify does.
