Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, has joined hands with OpenAI to assist developers in integrating ChatGPT into their Snapchat AR Lenses. Additionally, Snap is launching a new iteration of its AR development tool, named the Lens Studio 5.0 Beta. During its sixth annual Lens Fest, the company announced that ChatGPT can now be utilised by any Lens developer, enabling the creation of novel learning, conversational, and creative experiences for Snapchatters.
Snap has used OpenAI before, as its My AI chatbot is powered by the company's GPT technology.
“We teamed up with Open AI to offer a new ChatGPT Remote API. Now, any Lens developer can leverage ChatGPT in their Lenses, unlocking new types of learning, conversational, and creative experiences for Snapchatters. Also, a new 3D face mask generator enables anyone to build their first potentially viral self-expression Lens within a matter of seconds, combining Gen AI and our state-of-the-art face mesh capabilities,” the company wrote in a blog post.
Although the implementation of ChatGPT into Snapchat AR lenses is currently in beta, Snap anticipates a widespread release of this new feature to all users in the coming months.

The company also mentioned that a 3D face mask generator that will let anyone to build their first viral self-expression Lens in a few seconds. In Lens Studio 5.0 Beta, a new AI functionality is the 3D face mask generator. The company states that this feature empowers anyone to swiftly create their initial self-expression Lens, potentially going viral within seconds. The generator merges generative AI with Snap's face mesh capabilities.
