New Delhi: US-based chip-making giant Qualcomm may be renaming its upcoming flagship chipset. The chip manufacturer that is slated to host its Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021, later this month is likely to rename its next top-tier processor Snapdragon 898 to 'Snapdragon 8 Gen1'.

According to a famed tech blogger, Qualcomm will be just retaining the 8 from the old moniker, but will do away with the triple-digit naming of the upcoming chipset, says a report by Gizmo China. This processor will be a top-tier processor from the company and it will be a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 888 chipset.

The chip manufacturer is set to host the annual event from November 30 to December 2. Going by the previous announcement trends by the chip maker, the new chipset may be unveiled on the first day of the event. The internal codename of the chip is still SM8450 and future products will continue to follow that format. Fames leakers Digital Chat Station and Ice Universe have both heard about the renaming, but the news should be taken with a pinch of salt.
